Wolf Spider

Distinguish the Wolf Spider (Hogna) by its large size (average female is 28 millimeters long) and dark brown coloring. Hunting spiders, the Wolf Spider jumps and attacks its prey. The spider does not have a lethal bite.

Cross Orbweaver

Observe the Cross Orbweaver (Araneus diadematus). Cross Orbweavers are identified by a unique cross-like pattern on its back near its bottom. These patterns are brownish-yellow with white spots. Cross Orbweavers are most commonly found near buildings that have outdoor lighting fixtures. Females average size is thirteen millimeters while the male is around 9 millimeters long. You will spot them during the late summer and early autumn season.
